Call for Welsh Dragon on Union Flag.
In a Commons debate, Wrexham's Labour MP Ian Lucas said the Welsh Dragon should be added to the Union Jacks Red, White and Blue pattern.
The Union Jack currently only represents the other three UK nations and the Welsh people have asked for it to be added. The Welsh Assembly have said the Union Flag should not be flown in Wales as the Welsh are not on it. In response the Reply came that the Plan would be very Unpopular with the citizens of the UK and was an entirely "Eccentric" idea. The Scottish response was positive but told the Debate it will be Irrelevant as with their full Independence soon or otherwise they will be coming off the Union Flag. Could I ask would people find it unpopular to have one of the Countries of the UK represented on the Union Flag? |

I can understand why the Welsh must be upset by being left off the Union Flag, but whether it's right or wrong to add the dragon, I think it's been around in it's present form for too long for it to ever happen.
Overnight all flags would be redundant. Most of all though, we would all have to change the badges on our cars.

apparently Wales had already joined the union before 1606 when the first union flag was established (st George cross)
If the Welsh want recognition on the flag, then we need to widen the Seven river and charge a toll in both directions! |

That's how I understand it, too. Although I'd love more obvious recognition for our Principality on the Union Flag, it is the case that the St. George's Cross represents England and Wales together. Perhaps the English should get their own flag too...

There's already too much division in my view.
Rather than break into many tiny satellites, I'd rather see the European Union develop further. Last edited by pizza john; 27th November 2007 at 16:49.. |

As The Welsh Assembly is becoming more devolved and now has its own Law making Capability and eventually will be a Government and will go Independent Eventually, just like Scotland.
Good Laws Introduced that are different Here in Wales already include but not only: Free Transport anywhere in Wales or where journey starts or Finishes in Wales for anyone over 60 or Registered disabled. No Prescription Charges for anything for anybody. University Fees greatly Cheaper or Large Grants available to cover. Free House insulation Loft and Walls for over 60's and anyone earning less than the Country's national Average. Free use of Swimming pools and leisure facilities (in council run centres) for up to 16's and over 60's. With the new Transfer of Powers just given, mean New Laws and Traffic regulations, Health, Education etc can now be sorted here and set here without London Interfering!. Wrexham must be absolute Utopia if the most important issue for its constituents is the design of the Union flag.Given the opportunity to speak in the House its M.P.could surely have found a subject with more relevance to the electorate.
