Do a demist test first to see if the front cooling fan is running continually, on a diesel ignition to II no need to start the car, make sure all the A/C is in the off position then press the demist button only go to front of the car and look through the front grill to see if the fan is running or not.

If not check if you have a silver resistor in place at about 2.00 Oclock if yes then change it for a gold one.

If not the lower speed as failed which works in conjunction with the A/C

OK, so did the diagnostics check and nothing happens ! how long do I need to keep the 2 buttons pressed for ?

And the demist test, the radiator fan is not spinning. I already have a gold resistor, 200 watts that I put in 5 years ago.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the resistor has failled, doesn't the fan run at full speed when you switch the demist on ???

Pete.

Hi Pete,

If the resistor has failed there will be a period of no fan activity whilst the refrigerant pressure rises sufficiently to trigger the fast speed. Thereafter the fast speed will normally pulse on and off.

In your opening post you reported that your air conditioning has "stopped working". Can you expand on that please? Are you getting no cooling whatsoever? If so, please check that the compressor is engaging when you press the demist button. Check this visually as Colvert advises and report back to us a.s.a.p.

Simon

Simon,

OK, I will take a look when I get in.

3 weeks ago it was working perfectly, I then left the car for 3 weeks, got in it Tuesday and the aircon is doing nothing, no cooling at all.

As Simon says in the above post.

The first paragraph. The engine needs to be running for this test.----

Hi Simon,

no not yet, sorry, not had time to take a look. I'm not using the car because of the aircon, it's too hot here.

In the original post, it was suggested to press the Auto and Distribution buttons together. Does the engine need to be running to get any faults displayed?
