And why a new car costs so much. We pay for all that stuff at the end of the day.

Unfortunately it just doesn't work that way squire. The WHOLE car falls under the prototype rules as there is no duty paid on the car so the whole thing has to get scrapped off. Most cars from motorshows are destroyed when they're finished with as no duty is paid on them. I've seen perfectly good cars that you could strip out and reuse go to the crusher and you can't have anything off them - that's the rules unfortunately.

I suppose what marks these cars out from the majority of other prototypes is that they were the last of the line and were special. Cars such as the LWB 75 V8 could and should in my view have found their way into a museum. Whilst other cars could have been documented to trace what MGR had planned in 1 or 2 years. Whilst I know this is what had to happen aswell it doesn't make it any less sad. Another chapter closes on MGR and all that...

I know that it's a sad prctice by manufacturers to destroy prototypes for various reasons (See for instance the Legacy Paragraph here):

I can't help but think that something could have been saved

As said i think its more upsetting due to the fact we're MG-R enthusiasts and as MG-R are no longer with us thats a pile of history gone to scrap.

Yes to any other member of the Joe public they look the same as any other 75/ZT e.t.c on the road but its just the fact they've lay untouched on the Longbridge site for 5 years now then just lobbed on a scrap pile.

On another note how did the S plate 75's get away with it? As they were development cars.

One that did get away and the only SPL VIN that I have come across. The earliest 75 Tourer?

Yes, I believe that it's still in the exhibition area at MG UK.

Apparently my Aurora ZT-T 190 (V8 OMG) was made for the Geneva Motor show.
Not sure if it's true though
