Default Air con has packed up

Hi all,

I left my car for 3 weeks, got in it today and the air conditioning has stopped working. The symbol is up on the screen but it’s not working.

If I put it on T4 will it tell me what’s wrong with it ?

Thanks.

Pete.

If you get FC 00 then no faults found - a common one is FC 21 FC 22 -solar sensor not working - but this is usually down to running the test in poor light etc.

Not sure if the diagnostic will flag this - but assuming your fan is working i would look at the air con blower resistor pack as that can fail - and a relatively cheap fix.

Hi all

which button is the "distribution" button ?

The radiator fan isn't coming on. The heater fan is spinning.

Hi Pete,

Before you do diagnostics on the air distribution system, is the compressor engaging when you start the engine and press the windscreen demist button?

Simon,

I will try and check it at lunchtime.

When I go from econ to aircon, I don't hear the compressor clicking in. But it is a rattly old diesel so maybe the click is being drowned out by the noise, I do notice an engine speed drop though, but only when I go to "ECON" mode.

When you press auto and the "sitting man" turn the key to position 2 and hold until you see the fault code read out - if outside light on the car is poor it likes to throw out an FC 21/22 code re the solar sensors - but if you redo in good light it will normally clear.

You can see the pulley on the end of the compressor.

Normally the centre of the pulley is stationary.

When you switch on the air con you can see the centre spinning. If it doesn't spin you've found the problem.---
