Default Broken down 1 .8t -strange symptoms

Hi
Did 90 miles to Trowell services - no issues - anyway tgis happened

Slowed down in car park and car started to lose revs - as she slowed down the engine continued to run in splutters till eventually stalling .

Called Rac - no fault codes found - however car started after say 25 minutes

So took a chance on getting home - 1 mile up the M1 she did it again - Rac to scene no fault codes but on trying re starting straight away the rev counter came to life so not
Crank sensor

Tried to get to an Rac garage - 3 miles later same issue - however on trying code reader (Rac man following to garage) his his reader would not connect to the car - neither would mine which is a first time - but when cooled down it did connect but no fault codes .

Also after this 3rd breakdown when i turned her over she started but the cooling fan cane on straight away and stayxed on for sone minutes - am now suspecting the ECU is faulty .Awaiting tow home- welcome any thoufhts as to whats going in. ALL issues dissappear
When cooled down but e
Reappear when engine hot.??

Hi Martin, I take it all the fluids are ok (knowing you I’m sure they are)

I would guess at ecu too from what you have said, how’s the wiring from the crank sensor near the turbo? If that gets cooked then it fries the ecu.

Martin,

I take it that you've got the orange clip fitted?

Hello Andy - fluids are all fine - i am thinking ECU - because of the fact she would not talk to the RAC DT or my own diagnostic tool until she cooled down and now the fan coming on when not up to temp ( checked the on board 19/7 with my Hans gauge and rhey match) - will check the Crankshaft wiring to see if it is heat damaged .Once cooled down she starts fine - rev counter steady then after a few miles she loses power and rhe revs drip to nothing then stalls.
Cheers
Martin

Default Update

Still waiting for RAC recovery - 4 hours and counting - whisat here more gremlins apparent - the light on sounder not working and when key to pos 1 4 beeps and the rear wiper swipes even though off on the stalk. So l
looking more and more KBUS or ECU.

Strange wiper antics when off usually means, when a new radio is fitted, that the switched live/positive live are the wrong way round, that's on the front though, so you may be right about the K-Bus

When i get the car back tomorrow i will sniff ecu plug
And check for under bonnet fuse box chafing - then cranksensor wiring for heat damage - then look at the Canbus - in view of the associated gremlins its looking elelctrical . But will bear in mind the FF O ring .
