Default TomTom MG customisation

Today I customised my TomTom One XL (the widescreen version)... here's the result!

New startup screen :

New car symbol :

To change the startup screen
Create an image file of 480 x 272 pixels (or 320 x 240 pixels if your TomTom isn't widescreen). Save the file as a bitmap file (.bmp) with the name splashw.bmp (or splash.bmp for non-widescreen)

Here's the one I made...

Widescreen :

Non-widescreen :

Plug your TomTom into your PC, and the TomTom screen should ask if you want to connect to the computer. Select "Yes".

Once connected (it takes a moment), on the PC go to "My Computer". You should see the TomTom listed as a removable drive. Note that your PC may show it as a different letter, but mine shows it as the 'G' drive :

Double click the entry for TomTom to view the directory of files on the sat nav unit.

In the main directory you will see a file called splashw.bmp (or splash.bmp on non-widescreen devices). Rename this file (I added ORIG to the filename, i.e. splashwORIG.bmp). Then save the file you created earlier onto the TomTom drive.

You can also change the shutdown screen by replacing the file antitheftw.bmp (or antitheft.bmp for non-widescreen) in the same way.

Once you're done, disconnect the TomTom and your screens will now have changed.

To change the car symbol

Create an 80 x 80 pixel image of your choice. Any areas of the pic which you want to be transparent must be coloured in red (#FF0000). Here's the one I made...

It has to be saved in bitmap format (.bmp), and you need to put the file on your TomTom under the art\cars folder. Then after you've disconnected the TomTom from your PC, simply tap change preferences, then change car symbol, and select the file you uploaded. All done!

It also can be done with the Tom tom installs on PDA's and retrofitted installs as per Navigo and Mavigon models. It's a little more effort but well worth it.

I did mine with the Rover logo.

Instead of! I just couldn't be bothered to do the sunblind today! Maybe I'll fit it during the week...

Also, I finished off your switch conversion (door lock switch, light switch panel and traction control switch), so just the sunroof switch and the bordmonitor left, then you'll be all blue'd up

Thanks . I have been looking for a Rover logo on a black background for a while. I want to change my current splash screen which is the logo on a white screen.
