A seat at the table.
Are there any furniture buffs out there? Celia’s been looking for a suitable chair to go with her partner’s desk (hasten to add that's a solicitors partner, not me, phew) and we came across this captain’s chair (?) recently.
We think it’s a captain’s because it hasn’t got castors. Can you imagine him with clay pipe, glass of Jamaican rain, charts and trammels in a high sea? The suspension under the seat has got us going a bit. Never seen anything quite like this before and it’s very impressive. Mainly cast iron with Cantilever springs acting in concert. As you stand to get up out of it, it automatically tilts the seat forward. When you sit, the springs allow you to tilt a bit backwards, very sweetly. There’s a banjo arrangement which keeps everything located perfectly and is for all the world like an I.K. Brunel ‘rather special’ dream. We think it’s American and around 100 years old. All solid oak which was bruised, scratched and worn until I came to terms with it. There is a name in the steel wishbone casting but can’t make it out and there are a couple of non-OEM nuts/bolts so mods have been done at some time. Anybody any ideas?

This looks similar, so possible American/Canadian Wray.

Thanks Gary, the link provides sight of the label on the back of the chair, a remarkable almost exact replica except for the undercarriage. Near enough though! We weren't far out!
