Default Yet Another Clutch Thread

Hi all,

My clutch master cylinder broke yesterday, it's not burst, it's broke.
The plastic end that fits onto my clutch pedal snapped.

I'll be honest, I'm quite annoyed even though I knew the clutch needed to be sorted I was hoping it'd last until next month and next pay-packet as it's just swallowed over 500 quid getting it through it's MOT.

I'm still confused as to what make of clutch to go for, but now I've the added insult of needing a clutch master cylinder, which from what I can gather there is a fond following of the metal body type.

I see DMGR do a kit with this style of master cylinder in, with a Borg and Beck clutch.
What are everyone's thought's on B&B for the 135 cdti please?

Also, the car is broken down about 10 miles away from me, and rather getting it recovered to my house then trying to get it re-recovered to a garage to get the job done, I've left it where it is until I've made the decision on who / what / where and how.
If anyone recommends someone to do the job near the Derby area, please share.
My recent attempts to have just a top mount replaced was turned down by four places no less!

Many thanks in advance.

A very sad and broke Richard

I have a B&B clutch on a CDTI and have just towed over 400 miles doing a lot on A roads plus a few 0000 miles without towing. so far not a problem.

LUX Or LUK is also I think recommended. DMGRS have "original" masters and I don't think there is a firm following for the metal body master.

what makes you want to change the clutch?

I wouldn't' change the clutch until you need to when it starts slipping. As for a master I've got a LUK for 130 fitted as it only takes an hour if that. Less hassle than the hours they'll take doing the clutch and slave which you'll need to do at the same time.

The clutch doesn't slip, judder or anything,

It's the fact the pedal is ridiculously heavy. So heavy this is what has caused the plastic "eye" on the master cylinder where it fits onto the clutch pedal to snap.

OK,

I suppose I should be asking the question, "why is my clutch SO heavy on my ZT Cdti? "
What is THE actual component which causes the clutch to need Thor to press it?

try bleeding the master cylinder to joint in the engine bay then bleed all the way through to the slave. A member bleed his clutch system and apparently made it much better

Marina Brian has come to my rescue,

he is very kindly posing out a plunger for me to swap over, so obviously I'll be bleeding the clutch thoroughly.
Fingers crossed I can get it back running under it's own steam.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Heavy clutch is usually due to loss of spring effect in the pressure plate fingers. Can also be friction in pedal fulcrum points (rare) or rust on the splines. Sorry but usually needs replacing. Try bleeding and good luck.
