Default Swapping out VIS motors Yeay or Nay?

Hi All

My everyday car is an '02 2.5 V6 Petrol connie but I'm getting a lot of ticking from the engine at start up and until it warms up so, before I start fiddling about with the manifiold or hydraulic lifters, would a swap out of VIS motors help?

Stocktake kindly revamped my VIS motors last year in what is now my Donor/project car , an 05 2.5 petrol V6 Connie.

Is it possible to simply take out the revamped VIS motors and put them in my everyday car.?

If so is there anything I need to be careful of or is it plug and play?

Cheers

Paul

Plug and play Paul check the balance flap is free throughout it's movement.

That said, I doubt the problem is the Vis motors, they either work or they don't so the noise disappearing when the engine gets warm is not consistent with failed vis motors or worn inlet manifold parts.

Thanks Dave

TBH I must admit it was a wild stab in the dark, it's due an oil change anyway so maybe that and some Seafoam will do the trick

Hi Paul,

Give your engine a dose of Comma Flush Out and refill with 10W40. Your symptoms suggest contaminated hydraulic tappets.

Same issue here with my V6 2.5 so I'm going to try the oil flush and change suggested by Simon. I found 5L of Comma flush out on Spares HQ for £11.80 inc VAT which seemed a great price.
Also they do MPM Premium 04005 Motor Oil 10W-40 Semi Synthetic SL-CF (5L Container) for £11.03 inc VAT.
Product Code: MPM04005
Seems very reasonable. Never heard of either product.

I have always used 5/40 oil on my K series cars. On my 1.4 and 1.8 it cured the tappety start ups. I still use 5/40 fully synthetic on my V6. It exceeds the requirements for our engines so is fine to use.
