Why bring that up, are we no longer allowed to take a pride in our cars? I'm sure that's not how you meant it, but I have to confess, it did sting a little on first reading. Let's be honest, from a forum perspective, I suspect 99% of posters are replaceable, not just the detailers. I doubt very much that Brian has been hounded out of the club by a bloke with a bucket and sponge (or even 2 buckets and a wash mitt ), he's much stronger than that.

On that I’d agree, but I’m struggling to think of many such cars in our club. Clyde’s Wurzel was his “every day” car until April this year and as he doesn’t own a garage or car port, I would assume that is still stands outside in all weathers. “Flying Banana” has covered over 200K miles and still wins prizes at "show & shine" meets. My own ’75 gets polished half to death but still has to earn it’s keep. Well maintained and shiny do not have to be mutually exclusive.

A very sound approach, and I suspect that most of the “Shiny shiny” brigade would agree. From a personal perspective, back in my younger days I used to do all my own servicing (not always a good thing ) and even did 3 engine swaps, a couple of clutch replacements, and 3 gearbox swaps. Now, however, with cars getting ever more complex, and me not getting any younger, I leave most of the spannering to those who know what they’re doing, as I no longer have the proper equipment, the knees (!), nor if I’m honest, the confidence to tackle a lot of the work (though I did replace my engine fan a year or so back ).

I've no wish to create yet another "them and us" argument - quite the opposite. I only mention all of the above, as it seems to me that some folk are seeing a divide in the club that really shouldn’t exist. A number of posters in this very thread have already referred to cliques within the club. Adding “shiny shiny" V “techies” into the mix really isn’t going to help anyone. We're all car lovers and I suspect that each and every one of us has both much to learn, as well as knowledge we could share.

Anyhow, I’m currently looking forward to the National this weekend, I do hope I don’t have to throw dirt over my ’75 before anyone will talk to me. Honest guys, my shiny '75 is NOT the reason Brian has decided to leave.

On a personal note, like most folk here, I’m sorry to hear of Brian’s decision and am hoping he will return in a month or so when his day job allows him more time. He has helped me out in the past with his wizardry and it would be a significant loss to the club if he decides to pack it in for good.

Sorry, can’t resist one last comment:

Definitely stick around – it’s 2 buckets and ditch the sponge .

My car had a paid for in full £120 map from Russ thank you very much!
Are you unable to answer the questions regarding the maps

Hi Cliff

I have referred to Shiny in one or two of my posts & it has not been aimed at your good self or detailers in general.

Yours is the kind of car I for one aspire to, used daily & glorious to look at.

My references have been to those that do nothing themselves to the cars, only bring them out when it is certain not to rain for 3 months & seem to want patting on the back for it.

As my new car is Primrose Yellow & has a fair amount of faded paintwork, no lacquer peel luckily, I will be asking you advice on how best to deal with it. We can do that via PM when I get on to it though.

But to refer back to the original thread topic.

Brian calls the colour Nonogram Light Custard & called the Celestial Monogram Wedgwood to my face. Did it bother me NO!

I think he will be missed more than any of us realise & if telling it how you see it or how it is, is to be frowned on then the world is going down hill.

I look forward to chatting in time.

Regards

Paul

You can take it or read it any way you want to - one good technical post on how to keep your car on the road, or pointer in the right direction from a man who knows is worth twenty posts about how to polish your engine cover.

You know, any potential new member reading this, is going to think" stuff that"and move somewhere else. We have lost two good club members already. The clone ecu thing is in the past and has nothing to do with Brian's leaving. He has gone, and has other things to do. He may come back if he feels like it, but I doubt threads like this will change his decision. Lets just call it a day, give the man breathing space and family time, and see if he decides to have a look in once he's ready. The whole club is in turmoil, perhaps the forum needs to close for a week or two and let the dust settle? Then we can come back refreshed with clear heads.

On the other hand, when you're trying to polish your engine cover, a posting on coding ECUs is no help whatsoever. Horses for courses

Singling one group of forum members for criticism is not helpful and won't bring Brian back.

No worries Paul, I don't take any of it personally in any case . My post was really just an effort to avoid any more cliques forming.

BTW Primrose Yellow is a cracking colour for a '75 .
