Top engine mount drivers side is an hydro mount, different mount altogether they are filled with Ethylene glycol and start to fail after about 7yrs onward, you may notice some fluid leak, but they can also go weak and show no signs of leakage. Special tool needed to remove and re-fit the mount. link for the mount below https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROVER-75-...-DjV:rk:8:pf:0

Hmmm. Mines still going strong at 76K miles and 15 years, so am I on "borrowed time"? Would this be a part that is worth grabbing for future use I wonder? Cliff

took my Hydro mount off the auto dizzle at 150k and still in good nick and no leaks, the new petrol/Diesel replacement is 20mm taller and not made a noticiable difference to the vibrations

I think it may also depend on how the car as been driven and in what environment, as we know some road are worse in different parts of the country

What are he symptoms of the top hydramount failing. I have a squelchy squeaky noise when I blip the throttle or when l go over bumps. Something in the back of my head thinks the engine is moving causing maybe the exhaust or something to grate against something.

Ray. A symptom can be vibration or unsteady engine movement on tick over, as well as the signs above leaking, sometimes you can get thud on take up of first gear and changing gear, but alas that could also be the lower engine mount so both mounts need to be checked.

Thanks Arctic, yes l do get vibration sometimes when idling, but a touch on the accelerator pedal quells this. I replaced the lower mount, as when l checked it had a split in the rubber, but hasn't changed a thing. The top mount has no signs of leakage, l did try the long screwdriver to the ear test, but couldn't get a reply. Rattles and vibrations are hard to detect, l will just leave it until it gets louder and more obvious to discover. It has approx 105,000 on the clock so the working bits will be showing their age.

At least, that's my understanding, but hopefully Arctic will be along soon and provide a more detailed (and acurate) description . Cliff
