Hi David, hope your well. Thanks for that info. The PCB that's in the FBH now has apparently been checked and OK'd by French Mike so I'd assume that is fine. After stripping the FBH I found the combustion chamber had a thin layer of carbon but was also covered in what looked and smelt like unused engine oil, which was also found in the fbh exhaust. But the gauze in the burner was totally covered with carbon, so I'm hoping this is the issue. Rebuild replace and test today so will post up the results. Thanks. Lee.

Just a word of advice. If you start it up in the garage, DO NOT LIGHT ANYTHING UP WITH A MATCH OR ANY OPEN FLAME. The white smoke is highly combustible.

fbh
FBH rebuilt and refitted.
Some notable changes in operation. Sounds a little louder than before, bit more of a roar to it. No smoke at all now, was blowing white clouds. Temperature did climb quicker, coolant was 9c before FBH start-up. Managed 57c after 1 hour running compared to 38c in same time before. Does this sound right? Am I expecting more from it than I Should? Any thoughts appreciated Thanks. Lee.

No, this does not sound right. From memory, mine reached circa 70 deg after about 15-20 mins running. I’d really need to do a check again to be sure. You should not need to run for 1 hr, to get up to a reasonable temperature. Do you have the engine running when doing the test? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks for the reply. No that's just the FBH alone, I have heard 20mns is the usual for the temps mine is achieving. In all other respects it's running fine. Lee.

Do you know anyone else with a working FBH who could swop over the PCB to see if it makes a difference on your car ?

I agree it shouldn't take that long, and I can assure you it was still going full pelt after an hour. Also having gone for a drive with the FBH on, I have now discovered it continues at full pelt even when OBD is showing 87c so I'm now thinking the PCB myself, despite assurances from the seller it's already been to French Mike.
Thanks. Lee.

My apologies for hijacking the thread, but I didn't see the point in starting a new one.
I'm not sure if my fbh is working properly. It did last year but it doesn't appear to warm the car up as quick. I set up the Ipk diagnostics - it only showed 9 degrees - then manually started the fbh. It runs nicely, I think, but didn't 'warm the coolant in half hour or so. The earth wasn't great, a crocodile clip, so that may have an impact. I'll try again with a better earth later but I don't think it'll make much difference. Does this sound like the fbh is in dire need of help? I don't really want to strip it and I cannot currently afford to buy a 2nd hand one to rebuild, but is definately a possibility. Thanks, Rob

Sounds like we have the same problem. Did you note the temperature after the half hour FBH run? If it ran then I'd say your earth was not the problem.
Stripping cleaning and rebuild with new gaskets made a difference to mine although it didn't cure the issue fully, but it was very easy to do, the hardest part very much the cleaning, especially the gauze in the burner. I'll post up any results I get, because I'm going to make it work

I think it's fair to say the heating part did not work, the temp didn't budge from 9 degrees.
Would that imply they the pcb needs attention? I'm half tempted to see about picking one up from a scrapyard to strip down & rebuild, I've got a lot to do this week & don't fancy having the car inoperative for a day or so. Rob
