I see nobody has mentioned a cam or crank sensor starting to fail. Both can give the symptoms you are experiencing.

The post above says fuel pressure sensor or its connector.

If the ECU doesn't get a good reading from any of those it will try to shut down.

The cam sensor on the diesel is only used for starting once the engine is running it's no longer needed.
It's only there to initially time the injectors, you can safely unplug it with the engine running and the engine will continue operating normally.

From the sound of it it's in some way fuel related, if there isn't sufficient fuel pressure the ECM will inhbit the injectors to prevent damage to the High pressure pump, that is why the car gets to a certain speed/revs then the power cuts until there's sufficient pressure.

Underbonnet pump, fuel filter, high pressure regulator and injector leakback are possible suspects.
If these are found to be ok then the ECM needs to be checked properly

If it does turn out to be the regulator on the HPFP it is not an hard job to sort out, and the cost of the part is minimal.

It takes about 45 minutes to change as the starter motor as to be removed to get the regulator. Couple of photo's of the regulator.
