Why not get a template made up , that way you can correct any mistakes and get them looking how you want , then etch the outside of the lenses so it shows up as a matt finish.

Sounds like a plan! although I would prefer it if they were all glossy so it looked factory. I suppose I could etch or gently media blast the pattern in and then have the complete lens lacquered ?! that should show up as a subtle pattern weather lights are on or off.
Might give that a trial, just need to source a couple of rear lenses to get started on.
Good call ... thanks for the tip.

Be very careful tampering with rear lenses Should someone run into the back of you your insurance could be invalid .All mods to lights should be validated by an inspection under the construction and use regulations .My Wife is currently dealing with an issue where non standard lights were fitted an accident occurred and the insurance company are not accepting a claim for said reason

I was going to suggest a lens sticker of clear and some sort of translucent red in the shape of the union jack.

Looks like the last post has just stopped it dead lol

I see your point, not the real deal by any means but red white and blue is definitely a big no no on rear lights.
On the mini I think they look pretty cool, on my 75 I would like them more subtle than that.
I'm leaning towards using a template of the flag then masking the pattern on the lens then using some of that red tinting lacquer so the flag would be just visible and last step would be to clear coat the lens when happy with the pattern.
As soon as I find a pair of rear lenses I think i'll have a go at it just to satisfy my curiosity as to whether the outcome is how it looks in my vision.
