Misty day in the Mosel Valley
The mist had begun to clear around midday, and after lunch, while driving up out of the valley, my eye was taken by the last traces of low cloud creeping across the river from Brauneberg, and moving over towards Lieser. Being in a hurry, and too idle to get out of the car, I simply snapped the scene from the driver's seat while parked at the edge of the vineyards.

Nice view Tom. Brings back happy memories of when I would visit the Mosel pretty frequently when I was posted to Menden with 50th Missile Regt RA., where I spent some of the best days of my life.

Menden brings back memories for me too.
Nice to hear from you Steve. I was occasionally at Menden too, visiting Northumberland Barracks, but I couldn't have said who was stationed there, so thanks for that info. It must have closed in 88/89, one of the first to go, as I recall.
I actually live here (and have done since 94) so if ever you're heading this way again do look us up. Regards Tom Graham |

Thanks for response.
Hello Chris,
Thanks for taking the trouble to comment. This part of the world has a lot going for it, especially for visitors, but I've lived here for a long time and of course eventually you see the warts and all. While it's an idyllic little world from the nature and wildlife point of view it's difficult to convince the young folk that they have a future perspective here. Actually I've just realised what a wonderful location you're in too. My brother-in-law was stationed at Leuchars for a while, and I remember spending some very pleasant time up there. My wife would just love it. Best Regards Tom Graham Last edited by tomgraham; 31st December 2015 at 20:37.. |

Lovley area makes me want to go again but having a year of heavy saving to do...d'oh! Definitly on the cards heading back to Germany for 2017 though, a cracking picture makes it very tempting to go this year hehe XD

Hi Tom. Been to the Mosel region many times. We have relatives through my sons marriage who live in Reil, just up from Traban-Trabach. They live right on the edge of the Mosel river near the bridge. We have had some 'happy times' there over the years. He makes wine, and at night brought up ten /twelve bottles of Spatlese, Auslese, Ice wine, and any 'specials'. After all the flooding in Cumbria this year, it reminded me of a photo I have of his property under water, which happens quite often he said, and they live upstairs then and get out the back way. We are going down hopefully later this year. Got to replenish. my wine cellar.
