Just reading my earlier post, the note at the bottom was to alert others that just because you get factory exchange items do not assume they are balanced - the tolerance is so great that each could be in spec and totally out of balance with each other. That's why Alan checked all four of mine, not just the two that had leakback The injectors are on their way back so will fit at the weekend Last edited by oddsocks; 7th December 2007 at 07:54.. |

What a difference!!!
The injectors were returned this afternoon and fitted straight away (work could wait!). What an amazing difference -as well as starting immediately (whether hot or cold), the engine does not shake at all when idling - the balance is so good. This is my first diesel and I had always assumed that some engine vibration/rattle on idle was normal, but it has gone.
With Colin's first hand report having been to Lynx deisel and my excellent result i would definitely recommend him and not look elsewhere. His details are: www.lynxdiesel.com Alan Darby 0118 9734 469 start to finish from removal to refit was 4 days including postage each way. Dave |

I just refitted Ron's synergy2 (setting 6) now I have the smooth and fast acceleration up to the redline - the fuel rail can now supply the pressure needed :-) |

Adding to the praise
Sometimes you KNOW when you are talking to someone that they are a "good un", and this was my impression of Alan at Lynx Diesels. I had tried (via email or telephone because of where I live) several different "specialists". Alan was honest, knowledgable (even to the extent of knowing part nos. off the top of his head), and offered, in my opinion, what I was looking for - good, old-fashioned engineering, and dedication to what you are doing. Add to this a same-day turnaround if there are no major problems, and it was no contest.
My four fully rebuilt and balanced injectors are on their way back here, and I will report on results when installed (don't hold your breath though, post here is delivered on donkeys). Mick |

Froggy,
I absolutely agree about Alan. I spent about 45 mins with him in his workshop, which was just great. He took me through his process, showed me the stripped down injectors, then demonstrated the balancing procedure. This involves selecting one of about 20 different size shims, which he has to estimate from a previous flow test. It's re-iterative process which can take 10 mins or more, each time having to strip down, change a shim, then back on the test rig. This is why he manages to get all the flow rates within 10% of each other. I can't see the big boys doing that. It certainly restores your faith in experts, when you have service like that. We did talk about other injectors, and he was saying that Delphi ones are not adjustable, and have to be calibrated by the ECU on the engine - so clearly more money required. So perhaps the Bosch is not so bad after all. Colin Last edited by ColinW; 8th December 2007 at 23:23.. |

Final Chapter....
So the donkey finally arrived.
I worked outside in BALTIC weather and fitted the 4 rebuilt injectors. The results were remarkable. The car idles with no discernible movement or vibration, and acceleration, both in-gear and through the gears, is astounding. With Ron's box set to 10 and driving on wet roads it will unstick the front wheels in 3rd gear if you give it full boot just above 2000revs. Bit smokey at that setting, so will now play around for the optimum balance between throttle response, torque/power, and emissions. As for Alan at Lynx Diesels I have nothing but praise. Meticulous workmanship, very knowledgeable, quick turnaround, cheaper than most, what more can you ask? Mick |
