All about location. My current victorian 4 bed detached has an orchard and veg garden which would form a building plot at the side, and eight brick and slate garages in a block (former stables), with a yard which holds a further 12 cars. Gardens front and rear it faces the village green and was recently valued at a mere £300k. I have no intention of moving!

The last house (my neighbour) that was sold in my street went for £97k, the same as mine a three bedroom end semi, big gardens, drive with room for 4 cars & double garage and that had a £55K kitchen extension on it
damn, Lancashire is to far from where the wife wants to be.

and that's my point, value for money. You are "close" to London so commuter distance which adds some to the price

I am less than an hour from London by train, although longer to drive it, but then I only ever want to go east, west or north!

A brother-in-law owns an Edwardian terraced house within walking distance of Chelsea FC and yes, he is a fan. A lovely house, nicely appointed inside and out. It lacks garage parking, no driveway and it has a very small back garden. He rents it out £5,000 per month. It is in one of those roads where the houses sell for a minimum of £1m plus, parking outside the house is on a meter.

My wifes daughter rents a room in a house in Crouch End with 5 others, they pay nearly £600 each plus bills and they have just been told the rent is going up £50 a month each . The house is in need of major updating and the boiler only works if you reset the trip at least a couple of times a day. The landlord wont do anything about it as he has plenty of others that will move in if they are not happy.
