I have similar with Mobil super 2000, but I believe it's due to contamination. When changed, it's perfectly quiet. But after around 5 months the oil light doesn't go out instantly, and I get a second or two of ticking.

I used Mobil 2000 on my last 190 and about 3000 miles later the bottom end went, it also became very tappity not long after the change.

After that on the replacement engine and on my current car I have used helix a couple of times but mostly I use triple qx from Euro car parts.

Thanks folks, very interesting about the Mobil Super 2000 (yes it is only a handful of replies but rather coincidental).

I've used Shell Helix semi & fully synthetic and the V6 has run well on both.

I can't comment on the V6 but magnatec made my K series sound like a bag of bolts!

I use Gulf Racing 5w-40 or Shell 5w-40 fully synthetic and i only ever get slight tappet noise on hot starts but it dissapears after 3-5 seconds.

I used G-force 5w 40 fully synthetic in the V6 with good result, only the occasional tappet noise for a couple of seconds on hot starts.
If tappets are generally noisy even after an oil and filter change a proper engine flush can work wonders.

Typhoon - there has been heaps of posts on the equivalent Australian Forum about oils. The oil light not going out immediately is a sign of the oil pickup for the filter being clogged, and if left the bearings will fail. There are many photos on that Forum showing clogged pickups, and confirmation when cleaned the oil light went out immediately. Many members where shocked how much gunge was in their engines even on well maintained cars.

To cut a long story short members confirmed the engines are very sensitive to oils and only the specific oils are to be used and changed regularly. But get your oil pickup checked asap.

Regards Tony
