Buying spares for the future
IF rust and crash damage does not get the car, I guess the thing that could keep our cars off the road is lack of replacement parts.
I can imagine suspension parts must be high on the list of parts that will wear out. Lots of members changing front or rear springs and upper arms. At this moment suspension parts are available but for how much longer? I have no interest in buying some other car, I like mine! I'm part watching football on TV and pondering the purchasing of suspension parts to store for the future. £20 here, £20 there, soon mounts up and then there are the more expensive parts but I know if I needed the part and could go to me garage and pick it off the shelf I'd be delighted. If I spend enough for almost a complete suspension, it is cheaper then buying a 3 year old family car and I have to store the parts Ho Hum decisions decisions macafee2 |

I think it'll be a long time before you have any problems buying spares macafee2
Just my opinion - I've hoarded parts in the past for minis and rascals but never really any need - where there's a market .... |

I think it's a general rule of life (seems to be with me, anyway), that whatever parts you hoard you will never need, but the one part you don't bother stocking up on, is the one part that will break

You’re right there, I broke a Vanden Plas 1300 for spares for my own Princess 1300.
Several years ago I was involved in a shunt where a clown pulled out in front of me. I repaired the car myself but the one side lamp/ indicator lens I needed was missing from my trove of spares despite a photo of the car showing it had both lenses on it before I broke it. Luckily I managed to get one on eBay but at a premium price. |

Electronics will be the parts you will need. Almost anything else can be fabricated or repaired but with out the electronics on your car working as they should it will be either undrivable or won't be able to pass its MOT.

With the state of our potholed roads, I reckon suspension parts will be needed every other year at least. Mine has developed several little clunks and rattles over the 3 months I have owned it, so I'm thinking of investing in a full set.
