I can honestly say he would think nothing of helping anyone no matter what he was doing the time. I've seen us spend a weekend at Sheffield at short notice to fit a engine to a friends car. Although I haven't spoken to him ages I will try to contact him.

Something is not quite 'right' about this and it's not the first time. I understand protocol has to be maintained, along with necessary confidentiality, and there is the 'need to know' principle, but just how and why would anyone need to ask to be retired?

Always got the impression that Brian would not bother to suffer fools, gladly or otherwise, and you could rely on him to tell you straight without trying to soft soap anybody. That quality alone is missing and needs reviving. Something get under someone's skin?

I wouldn't go as far as that Mike, the reception has been somewhat mixed shall we say, and a distinctly chilly feel from some
