I can't understand why these bushes and the arms that go into them are hexagonal, so designed to resist rotation. Looks like it's been designed to make it split. I would have made the end of the arm cylindrical, with a nut, and 2 big washers each side of 2 top hat rubber bushes, with a stainless steel spacer bush running through the middle. Having read some posts on the difficulty of getting these bushes off the arms (1 arm definitely needs replacing), I have got the DMGRS bushes, so I can fit the complete bush and arm together. I'll see what state the old bushes are in when I remove the arm with the bush still on it.

I guess they were made that shape as anything cylindrical that lives in wet conditions can slip as water is a lubricant on rubber.

So why not make them cylindrical, grease them, and let them rotate?

Their shape also makes them act as torsion dampers.---

They assist the telescopic dampers.

My MOT place suggested they could not be done without sub-frame removal. I did mine without disturbing sub-frame. The big problem was getting spanners onto the two large bolts and managing to turn them with such a restricted arc. I managed, using a series of different spanners, each with a slightly differing angle with a lump hammer. I did it working in a borrowed pit, with the wheels on the ground.

Aside from the problem turning the bolt heads, it was difficult to persuade the bushes to slide off the arms - a bit of lub help with that, once you get them moving.

Popped the Zeds undertray on for the winter and grabbed a photograph of one those rear bushes..

the Rubber seems ok, but then it should at only 14k miles ..

But the inner plastic bush has split ...... so a bit cr@p really
