Engine mount bush choice
Didn't take long to diagnose this part failure, don't think it had ever been changed, the inner metal cylinder just fell out..
So with the same amount of swearing as prescribed by the other accounts I read, I managed to fit a Powerflex by hand, which has solved all the relevant issues, but now I have this vibration at idle which pretty much exists in every car make that has one of these fitted. The bolts were tightened to correct torque. Is there any way to eliminate the vibrations when idling or should I just refit a new OEM one? |

My original Rover item was just beginning to split and rather than have it fail I replaced it with the Mondeo item.

Go for an OEM one - the Powerflex is very good at restricting engine movement, and gives crisp gear changes but does transmit more vibration into the cabin, based on my experiences. You should be able to get a genuine OEM for the diesel (with the letter T stamped on it) for 40-50 pounds. Try e-car parts in Sandy (they are on e-bay).

The Powerflex is smooth as silk on my v6 , no problems at all , but I have often heard it does transmit vibration on the diesels
I think there are two versions available , one for petrol types and one for diesels .

Both bushes on my diesel mount are Powerflex.......no vibration issues at all
I bought mine second hand and it came from another diesel. I do believe that the bushes are different for the diesel and I assume that mine are the diesel specific ones. Vastly improved the gear change feel, although my original big bush was pretty much like yours

Caused vibration at idle on my 1.8, wish I had read more about them first. They worked great on the suspension.

I made sure I got the diesel specific one.
I've had a full day with it now and to be honest, it's so much nicer to drive, and the vibration at idle has calmed down, easily liveable with. Thanks for the input, I will still investigate the Mondeo one for the future, thanks. |

I note you say you got the power flex for the diesel which would be the Yellow one with the three slots yes, a little tip if you still have the old mount use the centre from it to replace the full metal insert that came with the powerflex mount. The original metal centre as a nylon insert this helps with the vibration, all you need to do is skin it of it's old rubber and it will fit great into the powerflex mount. The Jag mount also fits with a bit of modification
