Default Coolant Leak on MG ZT+ 190 2.5l KV6

Hi guys, My car has sprung a leak with the coolant. I noticed that my engine temp was rising quickly as I monitored the on board temp diagnostic, it passes 115 deg but then the fan kicks in and sometimes brings it down to around the 100 mark. Don't have the newer type of fan as I can't really see the resistor as mentioned in other threads.

Noticing a pool on the floor, I investigated and found out that my car is pouring out the coolant at the oil cooler yet it seems to come from above it? I've checked the hoses and they appear to be bone dry with no signs of leaking. Checked inside the V to see if there was any leakage there and all I can see is just a bit of filth. I'm at a loss as to where it's coming from so I hope you guys can help.

It can come from a number of places.
1. Thermostat, remove the sound shield (quad cam) and check if you can see coolant in the V.
2. Water pump, will leak inside the cam cover and exit near the pulley
3. The oil cooler itself can spring a leak

I have had all of the above! at different times, mind you.

Okay, Thanks. I'll recheck all of those 3 points and find out where it's coming from.

The fan should trip on well before the engine reaches 115C. You may have a failing fan motor. A slow speed failure may be allowing the system to get too warm. You can confirm it by doing the Demist Test. If the low speed has failed, the fix is either a motor re-brush or a complete system replacement. It won't fix the coolant leak, but will mitigate the effects.

There are two steel pipes that feed the oil cooler that run across the front subframe. I've just replaced mine with a stainless steel unit as the old one had rotted through. Water was running from the bracket, along the rubber hoses and across the cooler. One of the rubber hoses had also been chaffing on the spring clip of the other and nearly worn through so something else to look for.
