OK,
so I removed the electrical connector from the fuel filter and started the engine. after a few seconds, 5 or so, the eml light came on, car was ticking over ok, any pressure on the accelerator cause the engine to cut out.

Connector has now been put back.

Well,
A slightly damp Trikey has just left, after a few teething problems with my 75 not wanting to talk with his T4 (hasn't seen one since Feb 2005 when it was being built) the diagnosis is the Regulator Valve on the HP pump is sticking. Rare it may be, but there we have it. Once I have managed to get a replacement fitted Trikey will hopefully came back and wave his 160 magic wand along with a few other 'odds & end'

A great bloke to come here and help me, but just like many here

I will post a further update once the new valve has been fitted and the problem is fully sorted, to bring the thread to a happy closure.

Hi Steven.
I presume you know that the best way to remove the HPFP regulator is to first remove the starter motor, this will give you a lot more access, also do you need to change the regulator valve or is it the O-rings that need changing, if O-rings minimal cost £5.90 link below.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rover-75-...19.m1438.l2649

Also a few pics below, if you notice in the photo's the large black O-ring is missing on the regulator taken off, it is replaced when adding the new O-rings, I have a feeling that this ring erodes as I did m find a few specs of the black O-rings on a couple I have removed.

The tips can be cleaned with carb cleaner before replacing back onto the main HPFP. good luck Arctic

Hi Arctic,

I managed to get a genuine Bosch unit today complete with gasket set and the larger O-ring, just under £110 . Bosch don't supply any of that even tho it's poor practice to re-use the originals.

I won't be doing the work, I'll get our mechanic to do the dirty stuff as I don't fancy getting under the car on the drive atm. Andy did mention about removing the starter motor, but thanks for the thought.

Apparently the 'tip' is actually a very fine filter.
