Default stockpiling thread closed while i was on holiday

a thread I was watching while on holiday has been closed and I cant comment on it. shame.

please please no one bring Brexit into this thread.

The thread was about stockpiling food.
I assume the reason was in case the shops ran out of food.
The problem with stockpiling is that is causes a food shortage if done inappropriately and the very thing people are worried about, shops with no food, is caused by people stockpiling.

shop sells 10 cans of x a week.
1 can to 10 different people.

week 1, day 1, a person goes in and buys 10 cans. No more for a week
week 2 day 1, a different person goes in and buys 10 cans. No more for a week

And so this goes on, the 10th person has seen a clean shelf for 9 weeks and has no x. Everyone else has also seen a clean shelf but they have caused the shortage.

If you want to stockpile, do it subtly over a long period and in small quantities to give shops time to reconfigure their ordering.

We are not stockpiling any more then normal shopping and often have 3 "tins" of the same stuff. We do it because it saves us shopping each week
and where we buy also has a fast restock, not once a week. Special offers also influence purchase as does need to spend x to get free delivery.

I started the original thread as we are hoarding some food away just in case. Unfortunately another member called me a 'prat' I asked him twice to withdraw the remark and highlighted it to the moderators twice, all to no avail. I'm sure I couldn't have got away with such rudeness as I make no secret of my affection for being part of the EU.

I also refer to the worry when electronic items went from the year 1999 to 2000.
The world kept turning, the electricity stayed on and there was food on the shelves.

I see no reason to stockpile food.

I did see a report from Premier Foods how they are stockpiling Ambrosia Custard and Mr Kiplings. I have Mr Kiplings Mince Pies from last Christmas in a tin and they still taste great. When I go back to Kenya, I take a good supply of Marmite, cheese, frozen butter and Mr Kiplings Apple Pies. Marmite and Mr Kiplings is impossible to buy there and butter is hugely expensive.

Perhaps we need to be looking to this lot for advice.

I believe there were genuine and profound reasons for all the points of grievance you reiterate.

Trouble is - you are about as subtle as an air-raid

I thought once a post was closed you weren’t allowed to start up another on the same subject, or am I wrong?
