Find out the burial sites for people around that time, and visit each one in turn. My wife and I spent frosty days looking round graves to try and find one

That's a good tip , and has worked for me . I took many photos of headstones in a number of graveyards and then gradually worked out relationships. His grave will have her in it , that gives her death date and age , that gives you her birth date , parish or church records give her birth name .....and so on .
The problem you may meet is headstones that old may be worn away ( especially if they are on a windy hill in the peak district ! ), but you can try your hand at charcoal rubbings
A good thing about this is that if you have to drive around a load of old churchyards , then a Rover 75 is a nice way to do it . Good luck !

To me it looks like the civil war destroyed a lot of records.
Please help if you can 🙏

Hi, I sent you a message last week with what I have found so far, did you not get it?
regards
Gary

Hi Gary,
Yes I did get your messages
I still haven't had any answers to the questions I wished to be answered.
Alice's maiden name and where she was born is two of them.
As suggested I think the Civil war destroyed a load of records 😭
Any more help will be gratefully received 🙏

Tried all that was suggested but nothing new.
Perhaps members could help.
Robert Spire married Alice in Gloucestershire between 1640 and 1645.
Where and when please?
Also what was Alice's maiden name?
