key blade removal
I need to get the blade out of a key without damaging the main body of the fob. Anyone got any tips on the best way , or is it just PULL?

thanks dragrad, broadened my search net a bit and found this which seems to cover what I want a little bit:
http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...y+bladehttp:// short version, heat it a bit and pull thankyou and sorry to waste forum space, but at least a search for key blade removal will now always bring the info more easily to hand. at least thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

Having recently done this job, the blade has to be broken out and there is a tiny cotter pin holding it in place in the plastic locator which fits into the base of the remote. You have to remove that pin to put the new plastic piece on, then pin back, then insert to the remote.

The pin isn't visible so to get the old blade out do you still just pull though?

It won't budge. It wobbles sideways a bit but I can't pull it free. Any other suggestions? Someone said break it out - can you be more specific how you broke it out ie what direction please?

Ok got it out. Horrid. But it's done. Removed the old cotter pin but the there is no way to get the old collar out - this means without drilling through there is no way to refit the cotter pin. I can get my new blade in - is superglue enough here?

Not quite sure where you are with it now; the pin can be knocked through with a large nail or similar, then gripped with pliers. the pin may need to be closed up a bit prior to fitting. I did put some super glue round the plastic insert on one key to see if either endured differently.

Well the collar that fits round the key and that is locked in with th cotter pin didn't come out. Just the blade with the cotter pin. The collar is still embedded in the key fob base. This means that I can slide my new blade into the collar that is embedded in the fob but it won't secure as you can't fit the cotter pin. Glue is about the only thing I can think of as that collar will never come out
