This is what I now have fun doing for my day job
These are an example of the sort of images that I take for work.
It can be interesting working outside with challenging light and weather conditions in the time you have allocated Audi S3 by Jeff Cranwell, on Flickr CC9J9629 by Jeff Cranwell, on Flickr CC9J9658 by Jeff Cranwell, on Flickr It's not all glitz and glamour though  CC9J9698 by Jeff Cranwell, on Flickr I jest........they ain't bad little cars at all

Love that first photo .
If you had the time to spare, I'll bet you could make a tidy sum shooting portfolios of owners cars. Terrific work. Cliff

Would be nice to get more creative but we have to shoot to the clients shot list and where the photos are to be taken so can't get all fancy with tilts and crazy angles and depth of field etc

Superb photos Jeff, thank you for sharing, pure car porn and an enormous change from what you were doing before. The main thing is that the money is good, that you enjoy it and have job satisfaction

Great pics Jeff, I'm tempted to drive over to Clacton and pick your brains on how best to take photos of the band my son plays in.

I occasionally take photos for my brothers band. Best tip is to resist the urge to use flash, up the iso and preserve the atmosphere

Wow, your photo shooting lessons certainly paid off Jeff, but
I am "dying" to ask.. ...how many shots do you take to be able to choose the one you/they want ? Ken. |

For the commercial photos for work I usually have an hour visit at each dealer and most cars require 12 shots per car. As the dealers want to maximise the amount of cars shot in that hour pretty much I have about five minutes on each car to obtain the 12 shots. That means getting it right first time pretty much. Not only that but I usually visit 5 dealers a day so if I took 10 cars at each dealer that would be 50 cars each with 12 shots. So if I took more shots I would have a massive task discarding and choosing which shots to use You get used to what each dealer requires and get a system going so it isn’t too bad to get it right.........most of the time

I'm a bit reluctant to up the ISO as it introduces noise and I like the pictures to be as sharp as possible. I do use flash, but never directly - and I set the intensity manually to try and retain some of the atmosphere. I've also experimented with shutter priority to get photos without flash, but the speed I need to use is so low that it's difficult to eliminate camera shake. I'll try using a higher ISO at the next gig and see how I get on, but maybe trying to get a faithful representation of how things look to the naked eye is being a bit ambitious!
