Default Freezer door left open

I went to work yesterday and left the freezer door ajar. Freezer is about 5ft 8 tall
Most stuff was still frozen when I got home so put freezer onto super frost.

Seems that freezer had frosted up and has been unable to refreeze.
We have moved stuff to another freezer and am using the caravan freezer which is quite small so most meat saved, fruit and veg... destined for the bin.
The freezer is now defrosting and we will have to hope that it is not done for. Hopefully we can turn it back on tomorrow.

Alas the alarm only come on when freezer has warmed up, not when door is left ajar.

Fed up with myself!

With all the hot weather we have had lately you were lucky not to come home to a kitchen full of home sick Eskymos.

Is there a food bank nearby where you can donate the fruit & veg before it spoils?

You might have got away with it (and hopefully so) but frost free is a description which belongs on the planet of the Expenses Fiddlers.
The so-called frost free fridges in the main rely on a heater element to melt the FROST/ICE which forms from the freezing process. The heater element cycles on and off in the background but when things go wrong (as they can do) that heater element can remain on longer than intended - such as when the door is left open or is prevented from closing properly possibly because of over filling the compartment with food.

The heater elements can and do burn out, hopefully without setting fire to your property. You would expect that all new UK sold fridges in this day and age would be fail-safe in all respects but ... hmmm.

As long as the food has ice crystals it is ok to re-freeze.

this morning I checked and any ice that melted did not come out where expected. It come out of the rear into the drip tray, over flowed and over the floor.
Expected the ice to drip into the freezer and as door open come out the front.

We have turned freezer back on and so far its doing nicely. Hoping it will soon be cold enough for the display to register. It only registers at -15

My lad doesn't use his freezer often but had inadvertantly left it uplugged some weeks ago.

Apparently it was a bit whiffy in there when he went to open it.
