Default Diesel woes... Advice welcome

Hi all....... ok heres my problem, car started playing up about 4 months ago would sometimes fire straight up, other times would take 5-6 attempts, with no running issues once started........

Slowly over time it did get harder to start, then one day no matter how much cranking she just wouldnt fire up.

parked up and left, luckily ive another daily so it sat on my drive until now.

First thing i noticed was no noise from either fuel pump, so i ordered a new in tank pump, on reading the excellent how to on here fitted it and hey presto turned the key to pos 2 and heard both pumps prime for about 30 seconds, car started first turn and ran for about 10 seconds, then suddenly stopped, so i turned off ignition and turned to pos 2 again this time no prime but the fan came on full speed for appox 5 seconds and no matter how many times i try the old girl is just turning over and wont start, cant here the pumps either.....

I am now rather stumped?? any advice guys, thanks Nick.

I had all sorts of issues with mine occasionally not starting , unplugged the MAF and thought i'd cured it but in the end it was the fuel pump relay in the glove box. Might be worth a try.

Just to be on the safe side , check the ECU isn't swimming in water .

Not sure relevant this is, but my Rover 45 had the same symptoms and it turned out to be corroded/ broken wire feeding the coil in main power relay to the engine management ECU so injectors not working. Just suggesting don't discount a wiring issue.

Have a search for injector leak back and cam sensor issues

The fuel pump drivers are on the bottom of the ecu, if it gets wet these are the first thing to bite the bullet.

I would drop Brian or Russ a PM if I were you, they can check your ecu and supply a replacement if yours is goosed.
