Default Rover 75 V8 #631 **SOLD**

Hi folks,

you have seen very little of me in the last months, true. I have been busy with a host of other projects and have therefore decided that it is time for my Rover 75 V8, #631, to move on to greener pastures.

One of 166 Rover models ever built, #631 has been registered PK54 HLG as an MG Rover Group vehicle on 6 October 2004, so just turned eight years old. It still has the original “Phoenix Motors” registration plates. It stayed with MGR for eleven months and was sold on 6 October 2005 to a lady owner in Kent. Her husband who still runs a local garage performed the services during the very limited mileage the car accumulated in the six years of her ownership. I purchased the car on 22 November 2011 with a little over 16,000 miles on it following a recent excellent repair after a rear-end shunt which resulted in the car being Cat D insurance. Cat D, for those who don’t know, is the smallest or least damaged insurance category, and is considered not serious enough to appear on the registration documents. The former owner explained to me that the right rear wing and the bumper had been replaced.

This particular car was ordered new in the desirable colour of X-Power grey with a full black leather interior with light grey piping. Options in addition to the standard equipment of the 75 V8 model include a sliding roof, full memory power seats and chrome bullet mirrors. The leather is unmarked, the carpets are new, the headlining is clean, but has a damage above the rear left passenger area. The wheels are 17inch Star spokes. All the other “usual suspects” like cruise control and stereo controls on the steering wheel, electric windows, electric door locks and both remote control key fobs are all there, present and functioning as they should. For those of you less familiar with the differences of the Rover vs. the MG V8 model, the obvious difference is the presence of the indestructible ADO 4R70W automatic transmission from Ford Motor Co, which was not only in use in the 1999-2005 Ford Mustang models, but also earned its reputation in millions of miles in New York Taxicabs and Lincoln Continental limos. The other difference exclusive to the Rover 75 V8 is a softer suspension, making the Rover a cruiser not a bruiser. Only 166 Rover 75 V8 models were ever built, making it arguably the rarest Rover model ever, and being the last Rover model ever launched before the company folded, it will remain a collector’s item forever.

In the eleven months of my ownership I have made some significant investments to the car, which now shows 29,197 miles accurate and up-to-date. After my purchase, a number of areas had needed attending, the heater unit was replaced by Dreadnought in Callander, who are the UK’s specialists in MG ZT V8 and Rover 75 V8 vehicles. The sliding roof mechanism had disintegrated (as many of them do) and was replaced with OEM materials. A set of Uniroyal Rainsport 2 tyres have been fitted in March. I also acquired two completely new carpet mat sets for the MG V8 models (different patterns to the FWD models) and put one in use, the other one is still untouched and will come with the car. I also sourced some Chinese mudflaps and had them painted and installed which you can see on the pictures. Recent work includes front and rear brakes and a full service at Dreadnought. The car comes with books and both keys as well as the original sales brochure (now rare) and price list (dito).

I am letting this car go, hopefully to a club member here or over on the 260’s. It is my intention to sell the car, fully serviced and ready to go with under 30,000 miles since new for GBP 6,995. I am offering this exclusively to the 75 and 260 club members with the following unusual “Club Members Only” Package included:

While this may sound wacky to you guys, I have just acquired a number of cars in recent months and have loathed the attitude of many of the sales people, test drives with a thimble full of fuel in the car, promises that weren’t kept, MoT’s that then never happened, parts that were supposed to be included, and cars that were located 500 miles away from my house. I hated all of it and wanted to make the purchase experience for any of my club member friends as pleasant and easy as possible.

Please note that the free delivery is AFTER the car is sold and money received. I strongly encourage anyone to come in person and inspect and test drive the car or to call Brian Luti at Dreadnought and let him tell you about the car. Once money is received in full, I will drive the car to your driveway, fully valeted and with a full tank of fuel, 12 months MoT and tax, and all you need to do is to get in and drive. Please also note that the distance from Perthshire in Scotland to your home will obviously increase the total mileage by exactly that amount. I hope the car finds a happy new owner on here.

Thanks, Chris, but apparently not enough people share your enthusiasm. At least not enough for last weekend being the last day I've owned the car. I still have it and the weather up here is pretty, shall I say, miserable? Whatever, who knows, you might be right in the end.

Enthusiasm is one thing having the funds to go with it are another entirely

I would love one but simply cannot afford one. The old saw about Champagne taste on a beer budget comes to mind .

This sort of car may take a while to find the rightful new owner so stick with it!
It has mileage on it's side & colour suits the car well.
Any close up pics of the driver's seat?

The Car is a rare version (166) of approx 900 produced. The Autobox and softer suspension will not appeal to those wanting the high performance aspect of a test track.
However a collector looking for an Occasion car will appreciate the ease of drive from the autobox, excellent ride quailty and the unobvious performance (which dosnt attract challenge from boy racers) supplying the owner an unfussed journey in style with the knowledge of the cars rareness and capabilty is recognised only by those in the know.
I suggest the attributes of this particular model will appeal to the classic car collector more than a Rover enthusiast, so would be better sold via one of the collectors cars auction houses.
