Default Advice and Help, please

Oh hear ye, my tale of woe....

Having not been used for a few weeks (hot summer days and a convertible SAAB... well, it would be rude not to!)

I took my Rover 75 Tourer for a run, started ok, everything seemingly ok.....

Until I set the Sat Nav for the journey home.

I then realised that I had no audio from the satnav, and when I tried the radio it would not switch on. (no orange light next to the power/volume knob)

My car is fitted with the HiLine audio system (satnav/TV/radio etc) with a Harman Kardon amp and speakers.

I know that water in the wheel well can be an issue, mine is bone dry.

I have tried a known good radio module, nothing.

I have tried a known good Harman Kardon amp, nothing.

I have tried a known good head unit, nothing.

All fuses seem OK, including the one on the radio module.

All plugs have been removed, sprayed with contact cleaner, and reassembled with much jiggling, nothing.

I cannot see any broken or disconnected wires in the wheel well area.

In short, I am out of ideas based on what I have read on here.

I know the K Bus wire can be an issue, but electronics make my eyes glaze over and are beyond me, I'm ok with real electrics, not electronics!

So I throw myself on the mercy of the court, if anyone is able to come over and sort it, or I can travel a reasonable distance, I would be most grateful!

I am near Melton Mowbray. Free pork pie to whoever sorts it!

Paul

1st step, unplug the battery for 30+mins (shut down your sat nav player first)
2nd step, if step 1 not successful then repeat step 1 but unplug the FBH (both plugs on top) just after you disconnect the battery... do not reconnect FBH it and see what happens...

Step 3, get rid of all of that excess weight and buy a naval star...

you can also check for water under the carpet, in plenum etc...

Sadly, the battery disconnect did not work. I assume the FBH disconnect is because it has a K Bus wire to it?

The carpets are all dry....

And I prefer the old school look of the original equipment, at least I did when it worked.....!

Hi Paul,
Have you pulled the sat/nav out and had a good look at the connections (follow shutdown procedure if pulling plugs out), tourers do leak in that area. Also if you have a sunroof it could be water in front drivers side, there is a loom under the carpet just in front of the drivers seat where there are a few K-bus cables joined together! Carpets dont always appear wet as there is masses of foam underneath them. Good Luck

Have you tried using the radio without the sat nav connected as well?

Just a quick update on my radio (or lack Therof)

Whilst looking through threads on here relating to KBus issues, I found someone who had experienced the same symptoms as me.

They had discovered no voltage on pin 7 of the radio module.

So I checked mine.... 0 volts....!

They had cured their fault by taking a feed from the tv module KBus wire to the radio module.

Tried this, hey presto, working radio!
