Default Front shocks availability, ZT

Good evening, folks !

While in the process of changing the rear shocks and springs on our MY04 MG ZT-T 1.8T, I wanted to to the same with the fronts. We're fast approaching 120000 miles now, and it feels like a good idea to renew the springs and dampers all round. It's sagging here and there, and doesn't feel anywhere as tight as it once did.

Managed to source correct springs fore and aft, as well as the correct shocks at the rear - the fronts shocks now became a problem. Seems like supply is exhausted and parts not being available any longer.

The correct front shocks for the car is RNB001060 and RNB001070.

Is there any point in trying to find suppliers for these, or is it a hopeless hunt? Any ideas?

Cheers

DMGRS have some complete front struts coming in shortly, I've preordered some.

Many thanks, Fox3

I'm aware of the Delphi struts which DMGRS are offering. My only slight concern is that they are "comfort" spec, and that the car most likely has the standard spec dampers - which has left me in two minds whether to try them or not. Also, the rears are now being replaced with the standard ones, which may not go very well together with "comforts" up front..

Most importantly however, the MOT failure will have to be rectified by the 31st of March, otherwise the car will have to be taken off the road. And DMGRS won't have the dampers in stock by then.

Think I'll leave the front dampers for now and see how the new rear ones will improve things (as the fronts did not fail the MOT as such), and take it from there.

This is the problem now with getting the correct shock absorbers and springs right accross the range not just the MG models.
If you find any originals they've probably been sat on the shelf for 12 years and I know from other members experiences that the seals tend to fail in no time.
I'm afraid often you have to compromise

That's a very good point, Russ. I didn't think about that.

Maybe the DMGRS dampers are the way to go after all - despite being the softer ones.

I'll give it a good think, this one

Well Rimmers are listing 11 different front struts for these cars, do they not carry the correct one for a ZT? http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID001542

Not for mine, I'm afraid. Mine are marked SH and TJ (funnily enough they're both listed for the saloon..), but both now obsolete.
