chrome trim removal on a 76 tourer

can anyone tell how to remove the rear waist chrome trim on a 75 tourer as i think i have a water leak there and i want to try and seal it i have read that the interior panels in the boot need to be removed is this the only way to do it also how is the trim fixed i don't think its the only leak as there could be one at the window above the trim if so what is the best way to seal the window does that need to come out really need help on this the car is getting soaked inside many thanks in advance

Look on Rimmer site and the following items.

Shows the clips, sealing washers and more important nuts and sealing washers at each end!

You will need to access the insides to get at the nuts!

The nuts and sealing washers, 2 of each on each side, at the rear end are easy to remove. The other clips going forward have to be squeezed on the inside to release the 'spring clips' in the back moulding. I have just bought 5 from Rimmers, - total cost £15.48 .

I made a tool to squeeze the clips inwards out of a short piece of 15mm copper piping, ovalised to the distance across the back 'post' of the clip. Once pressed on to the stub of the clip, the trim should be free at that point. then repeat for the others.

Whilst doing this, once the end tip is freed from the bodywork, watch out for the clear plastic 'filler', about 3inches long, inside the trim. This is not shown on the Rimmer's parts drawing.

You may be better just applying some sealant on the inside around/over the clips, without disturbing the clips.

I would leave all the trim in place, as far as possible.
I removed the trim on my Tourer for a respray.
More than half the plastic clips broke, I guess.
They are outrageously expensive to buy, if you can find them.

Not worth it if you don't HAVE to, in my opinion! Better work from the inside, if at all you can!

I always thought once the fixing near to the rear light was removed the trim then slides of the clips ?

Is it the same for the saloon then? My facelift has domed nuts and large soft gaskets/washers fixing the two rearmost fastners and the circlip type fasteners on the more forward (virtually hidden) fixings; I hadn't realised the finisher itself is designed to slide on/off.
Are all the waist finishers intended to be fitted/removed in the same manner i.e. all pulled rearward to remove and vice versa to fit.

I am not 100% sure so don't quote me

i am 95% sure someone at the Nano meet change one over by sliding it off the panel?
