If you have to spend more on fuel and power, you have less to spend on imported junk, luxuries and foreign holidays. That means more will be spent in the UK and will help balance the books!

We think alike. Cheap essentials such as energy and shiploads of cheap junk have led to a terrible waste during the past 25ish years. Not to mention the stupid, goverment funded using taxpayer's money, increases in house prices. There is a need to rethink and rebalance our lifestyles.

Interesting article from the BBC. Particularly the section on "Who is profiting" :-
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/explainers-62644537 The same oil companies that have been covering up (and lying) about global warming effects of oil usage for decades. Presumably they are still as powerful as ever and have us over a "barrel" and will make as much as possible before their exploits kill us all and the planet anyway!

Good news let's hope it continues:
http://https://www.cityam.com/gas-prices-plunge-as-germany-closes-in-on-storage-targets/ If it does continue it would mean a drop in the electric pricing also as 38% of the UK electricity generation is powered by gas. Russ

I was chatting to someone and the question was asked how is he going to get through the winter as his house is open plan.
Are there any energy saving/Scrooge tips we can pass on? For starters, we never boil a kettle during the day. All of the boiled water is collected off peak which then goes into a large vacuum flask. |

The same task takes a maximum of two kettles-worth heating about four (?) pints of water, not necessarily boiling, to an adequate temperature. Occasionally, a squirt of cold is even needed to enable bare-handed washing. The tank element is a multi-coil of considerable size – many times bigger than the kettle. Add to that, a shower for one lasting only one minute is sufficient for purpose. Unless, of course, one is not two. People, I mean. Saving: about £20 on your monthly DD? About £250 a year? QED.

Maintaining one degree of heat in an average size house used to cost just over £105 PA. Now it's probably three times this amount. Living in a very old house, we've found 16C to 18 C to be a very comfortable temperature. The body adapts to the lower temperatures quite quickly. This must be the biggest saving a person can make to their energy bills.
