Default Extending bt wifi hotspot

Hello everyone!
Anyone able to tell me if its possible and if so how ?
Got BT internet at home where our small office is.
We have a small lockup elsewhere where I sometimes use my laptop on a bt hotspot from one of the other units on the estate with my bt code - works absolutely fine except I have to use it on top of a shelving unit about 6 feet up.
Can I get a signal extender and use it to extend the signal without having any access to the originating router so I can use laptop at the back of the lockup on a desk?
Was told by a mate that a netgear WN2000RPT would do it so I bought one. Now reading the manual I am not sure. Before I open it and try does anyone know ?

Any help gratefully accepted

Andy

I can't think why it wouldn't work.

All you are doing is picking up a wifi signal, then sending it back out again.

Yep, should work although you will need to go into the web interface on the repeater to tell it which SSID to repeat as BT hubs normally have 2 or 3 separate ones.
Do bear in mind though, that the owner of the hub might not be too happy with you extending his coverage without permission and this could also be illegal.

If you happen to have 3G coverage on your mobile at the unit that a better way of getting service would be to use that as a hotspot. The 3G speeds are so good on Three now that when travelling I never bother to use hotspots in hotels etc as my phone is usually a lot quicker!

If you have a 3g mobile wrap some wire around the body (mobile phones are designed to pickup signals not reject them) and then wrap around the router antenna this can boost by 3db. There are many ways to boost the signal using directional antennas, repeaters, software upgrades etc. Have a look on youtube
