I'm dreading the day! know all about the injector issue. Costly in main dealer and stupidly time consuming, needs most of the top engine ancillaries off! I don't trash it and I watch the fuel economy like a hawk, reduced economy is a symptom.... But thankfully it's been a little gem so far and I've had my monies worth

Check the wiring loom from the tailgate to the body. They chafe and break internally, causing all sorts of electrical gremlins.
A How To section from t'other side. Tailgate check

Check for a wet/damp carpet in the passenger foot well area, signs of water ingress from the bulkhead, this will lead to SCU failure without a doubt.

The water ingress at the bulkhead is a strange one, i have it on a zr, it looks like a seam hasnt beeg glooped, but i confess i havent stripped things to check.
The wifes mgtf has a seam leak on the front bulkhead, so i suppose i shouldnt be surprised!

Relays in the SCU are a major problem, if you do buy one, send it to marinabrian to change the relays I'm sure he can do it, believe me I've broke so many of these in my time for head gaskets and SCU problems, like when people get locked out.

Also has it had head work? If so is the new gasket MLS type?
Regards
Mick

Bought my ZR 120 new in 2004. I have not experienced any of the problems mentioned except HGF.
The car has been 100% reliable (appart from early signs of HGF).

We also have a Rover 25 from 2003 (lucas electronics)
and 2 x MG TFs (pektron electronics)
They have all been 100% reliable, but I do look after them.

Is 8 am when the sun hits it ? If you have the interior movement sensor , the air inside the car warming up can set these off . Apparently a well-known issue on the 25/ZR forum ! My '55 reg ZR had this problem at about 9am most days . Disconnecting the interior sensor cured it

Otherwise a very good van. Bought this van on 18th March 2005.

On 18th March 2006 I bought a new Rover 25GSi (one of the very last) This was also a 1.4 (103BHP). Never seemed quite as powerful as the ZR for some reason. I loved this car, absolutely fantastic. In 8.5 years of ownership I never spent a penny on it other than routine servicing etc or modifications I wanted.
Only sold it as I kept getting pestered by a friend who wanted it & offered me strong money.
Oddly after a few months of him owning it the SCU went on that (Rear fog Lights U/S). There is a local Auto Electrician in Sittingbourne that did all that for £300.

I do know of a one owner 2005 Rover 25GSi in Silver that will likely be coming up for sale in a few weeks. It is a customer of mine who loves all things MG & Rover & I have cleaned this car from day one of ownership, only has 24000 miles on it.
We have now bought a Nov 2005 registered 4 door 1.4 GLi in Starlight Silver. But had to go to Buckinghamshire for it!, had been looking for weeks but nothing else came up local.

Remember to check insurance costs for young driver, the 25/ZR was a favourite with young hooligans so developed a bad insurance record. My 2002 ZR has been absolutely trouble free since new, apart from rust where front wing is attached to front bumper.
My 2005 ZS has had scu problems, (intermittent wipe stopped working) unreliable Pectron units on later cars I believe. But not too expensive to replace relays with upgraded items.
