By coincidence, I fitted a pair of new rubber seals to the top of the fuel tank in the Tourer at the weekend. As they are hidden away under the floor beneath the back seat, I decided to leave the two black metal covers and rear seat base off whilst going to fill up. This would allow me to check the seals visually for any diesel leaks, before putting everything back.

As I drove to the fuel station, I was amazed at the amount of noise that came up from the road through the access holes I was only doing about 30mph as well, so dread to think how loud it would have been at motorway speeds...!!!!

Would be interesting to test this addition, before & after, with some sensitive noise measuring equipment

It looks very neat in the boot, nice job.

Whatever we use in our boots, just need to make sure it's waterproof!!..

I was always impressed how quiet the 75 is especially from the rear wheelearches. Some much newer cars such as ford focus must have no soundproofing as the noise is so loud.
Even with the rear seats down on my tourer the car is quiet.

While you're at it could some kind soul put together a "How To" with the relevant dimensions of what you need to cut for front and rear and recommendations for the best tools to do it with?

I'll probably have a go myself once I'm certain there are no more extraneous noises that I need to hear emanating from under the bonnet.

Knife or shears to cut the deadening
Some kind of roller to push it down
Some kind of heat source (hair dryer, heat gun) if it's not a warm day outside helps

Loads of guides online - just search for "apply dyanmat" or similar.

Here are some pictures of the NK sound proofing kit for the 75/ZT as laid out on my garage floor - items 12 to 15 go in the boot, and you also place two of the rectangular sound deadening pads on the inside of each rear wing inside the boot just above/ and behind the wheel arch. I have fitted most of this kit to my car now (I haven't done inside the doors yet), and it certainly makes a difference.

I actually took these photos a few months ago at the request of another forum member who was thinking of making his own soundproofing kit - I sent him the pictures together with the NK kit instructions, that refer to the different parts by number, hence I added the numbers. So, I have not been dashing out to the garage today specially to take these photos for this thread.

I think I am only suffering from moderately severe Rover 75 OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) !

Cheers
