Yes Remember you are not a Policeman .You are a deterrent.I know of a store security operative who was stabbed whilst apprehending a shoplifter .For what they pay you do what you have to .No more or less .It is not a war zone it is a shop.However some of the low life carry weapons

Jimmy how manger was saying last week.

One of the lads chased a shop lifter outside a shop in Rhyl very rough area of North Wales and as he went outside he was ganged up by four irish lads and with baseball bats.

He as very lucky too have survived such an assault but he did and was back in work within a few weeks.


I was told that during my induction, On the doors I knew where I stood and how things worked with Retail there's so much too consider as well, How you present yourself too the public and how you deal with it, it only takes one picture or a video and boom your gone just like a click of a finger.

Everyone's got camera phones these days.

Its certainly interesting and different, just a little bit difficult too get rid of that door man mentality from the job, I'm switched too it and treat everyone the same and the staff don't trust them, the staff are just worse as the shoppers that's what I've been told from my manager .

Are you on any kind of shop radio system? All the shops and pubs around here are inter linked on a central radio, including police/pcso's. One shop sees a known face, they put it out on the radio, and everyone keeps a lookout for them, and if seen, keeps a not so subtle watch on them. Amazing how fast a scrote decided to move on without thieving when they know everywhere they go, they are being stared at

Hopefully not a problem where you are, but many of the regular lifters are junkies, so if cornered, are likely to produce a used needle and threaten to stick you with it
