Logically, I'd say all the rheostat boards are all the same, but I haven't checked.
Have you shown that the circuit is broken somewhere between each end of the resistance windings?

An open circuit on pins 6-3 doesn't specifically identify where the fault lies. I'd suggest putting the meter across the actual resistors. Then you'll know if you should swap the rheostat board or look elsewhere. Maybe a wire's dropped off somewhere?

its slightly confusing as my plug runs front bacck not across the car - ive tested where the wires join to the board on the pump uit and its open circuit there - that lead me to thnk the contacts had fallen off so i changed them - the old ones look no different to the ones i had spare

I have a rehostat board from a petrol car im just going to test with a meter - its just getting that out the plastic , the diesel one i had shattered trying to get it out as there quite brittle

will it do any harm truning the ignition on with the pump out the tank partly - just its a pain putting it back in each time

That sounds rather odd. Is the float arm oriented front to back or side to side?

I'd never recommend applying power into an open fuel tank, petrol or diesel. I suppose the chances of diesel vapour ignition are low, but they aren't zero. But I'll leave that up to you.

i cant remember whic way the float arm runs ill look in the morning - looking directly from above the plug is towards the mddle of the car (9 oclock) the diesel out put is 2 oclock , the return anout 4 oclock

the locator tab on the pump about 6 oclock - its a MK2 single pump car if that makes any difference

So does the connector sit as shown in the diagram or at 90° to the diagram?

at 90 degrees - the clip slides toward the front of the car to remove it
