Councils can issue traffic fines from December.
Looks like PC Plod is handing over moving traffic violations to your local council & judging by this report each county council could have different rules
"Cllr David Renard, transport spokesperson for the Local Government Association said: 'Councils have been calling for powers to make our roads safer and less congested for all road users. Powers to enforce against moving traffic offences, such as banned turns, weight restricted roads and yellow box junctions will help to keep local roads moving and make our air cleaner." https://www.transport-network.co.uk/Cou ... mber/17331

I presume that mean they'll first be improving the standard of council vehicle driving.

The council here have camera vans and have done for a few years, I'm not sure what they pick up or what they are for but they are labeled up as road safety cameras, they just drive around the streets from what I can make out. It has the council details on the side and not DSA. |

The trouble with this type of "enforcement" is that it is retrospective and not preventive, meaning that the safety is not their task but the penalty placed on those recorded to have transgressed is the Local Authorities claim of success.
It's a pity that fly tipping isn't given such a priority. |

Pity they don't prioritise the repair of potholes instead.

What, and miss out on a clean-up job. I wonder if they have ever caught anyone fly-tipping. Plenty down the country lanes in my neck of the woods. But catching them would mean planning and allocating resources whereas copping a "local citizen" doing somethin minor on a road is easily dealt with through the eye of the camera. Trouble is, one can't vote these type of jonnies out!
