A remap from Mark at Kmaps might help to give it a bit more oomph ;-)

I have wondered about the possibility of fitting a head from a mg tf 135 to a 75 120. The mg head is basically the same as the 160 but withe smaller valves and no vvc. would be an interesting experiment

The 1.8 has potential for a lot more power than people give it credit for, its the type of drive your going to get when you change it.
People will always tell you you need to look at the VVC for power but truthfully you just need to look into your own engine. MG 135 cams (or piper cams, their choice is huge http://www.pipercams.co.uk/pipercams...=20&engine=194 ), 52mm throttle body and we remap will have you knocking on 140 bhp if not 140bhp on the nose. K series responds extremely well to a manifold change also, the difference in drive ability is huge and also the engine noise even on a standard system sounds not nasty but much more "rumble" low down. Big mistake people make is decating the vvc K series as it looses power top end (whole point of it) but it does make a difference mid to high range on a fixed cam K series. Truthfully my 1.8 Freelander is about to get a few upgrades in the future also, ive found a nice manifold.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1508215491...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT ....but will definitely have to go piper cams as im the early engines that have a rotar arm / distributor cap on one of the cams which rules the MG 135 cams out. Hoping to go for a set that will generate low / mid range torque rather than top end. Then a we stainless set-up for rest of exhaust at later date. Also its mems 1.9 which people say can't be mapped but you can flash clone the chip and then refit a second one with a changed map. Should be good crack and give the freelander a bit more grunt low down.

Would be worth lifting the whole head unquestionably.
Additionally if you had the extra cash to have the 135 head ported and polished (prehaps even have the intake milled for a VVC air intake setup).

Dave Andrews at DVA power.... Enough said! Got deep enough pockets and your NA 1.8 can throw out 260+ bhp.
He does loads of "bolt on kits" to increase power and torque. |
