Default End Of Tether Reached!

My 2004 75 Conn Diesel had the clutch replaced about 4 months ago. The garage said it hadn't needed the flywheel replacing. Over the next few weeks it got increasingly difficult to get it into gear, until one day the gear stick was completely loose and couldn't get a gear.
The AA man said it was the gear selecter cables, so I ordered some from Rimmer Bros & got them fitted.
I expected the gear selection to be less notchy but it wasn't though it drove OK. Then I found I was struggling to get it into gear again, so back it went to the garage who could find nothing wrong with it.
So i've been driving it with the occasional hiccup, then on Friday I couldn't get it into any gear at all, much to the annoyance of other road users. I managed to drag it into 2nd eventually but am loathe to drive it now unless it happens again.
If it's any help it seems to get worse when you've been driving a while.
It's driving me insane, can anyone suggest a solution please?

You seem to need people to comment on the gear lever and cables and soon hopefully they will.

There is a clutch master cylinder problem we can get and as the seal wears sometimes we don't realise but the clutch pedal is already half way down before we put our foot on the clutch. And as the clutch pedal cant travel down much more we struggle to get the car into gear or change gear. I found by simply lifting the pedal higher to where it should be using my foot or hand that the clutch then works for a while or long while

Doesn't sound like cables to me - more maybe a clutch that needs bled? Others cleverer than I will doubtless be along soon to advise.

But before buying from Rimmers, I suggest you look at DMGRS. My selector cables recently did need replacing, and it cost me less than half what Rimmers wanted

There's not enough fluid in the clutch system. ( or trapped air. )

Do all the gears select with the engine not running.--If so the selectors are doing their job OK.

Have you actually checked the reservoir fluid level ??---Difficult to do as you need a mirror on a stick and also be a bit of a contortionist to view the mirror in action.

Topping up the fluid, if low, can be done from the bleed nipple on the top of the gear box casing. The cap to the master cylinder reservoir is just behind the blue cap in the picture below.

Hi, thanks to all 3 of you for your input.
As it happens, though i couldn't get into gear at all last week when driving, with the engine off after i'd parked up, the gears worked perfectly so that could be the issue.
I'll take all these things on board when chatting with my garage tomorrow.
I'm hopeless and couldn't even attempt it!

Hi Paul.
Did your garage supply the clutch when they did the job, if so then it's down to them to sort this out for you, if not find a garage that can, then send the original garage the bill.

Sounds to me they don't know what they are doing, don't attempt to rectify this yourself or the garage may say your warranty is void.
