What a con!1 I just had to write a cheque for €185 to pay for a Certificat de Conformite European, without which I can't get my pride and joy registered in France.

Unhappy headlights

Yes, the Certificate is needed to get the car changed onto French plates. A complete con, but they get away with it because Rover went bust.

On a point of information, the ex-Rover garage here in Rennes sold nearly 400 75s, and there were many more in the rest of Brittany.

so if they sold 1 it had to conform to eu regulations, the rest are aswell, unless the car is being imported from a none eu country ,or a country that became a eu member after 99....then it wont conform..somthing alone those lines,, but it can be a bit of a grey area like everything concerning the eu..

I had to pay £150 for mine in May 2009 in order to start matriculation in Portugal. May I ask where you got yours from for that price?
Regards,
Martin

By the sounds of it nobody gets treated the same and nobody has the same rules.

Default cert of conformity

I cant be sure but i have read somewhere that on the log book is a type approval number starting e11*98/14* etc etc this should enable you to register the car in france with out paying the excessive to that company

I will try and find the relevent info and post it on this site
But again it can depend on which "perfecture" you are talking to in france as they all seem to do it differently depending in which department you are in
