Thanks for the info. I was worried it was the PCB.

No the ECM is high and dry.

Can you change a 3 speed fan motor over to a 2 speed I wonder? Save me beginning my newly fitted carbon brushes!

Why would you want to do that Graham? It wouldn't help as the diesel needs a PCB control box whether it has a 3 or 2 speed motor. With new brushes from Engineering Carbon Products your 3 speeder will give you long, reliable service.

Oh I was under the impression that when the 2 speed fan was fitted you could do away with the PCB. I could have sworn I had seen a thread on hear which showed a 2 speed fan with no PCB fitted to a CDT.

No, that's not correct I'm afraid. The PCB is needed because on the diesel the engine ECU sends fan control commands as a complicated coded signal which has to be decoded by the PCB which then activates the relays. There's no way around that I'm afraid, except to buy a petrol engined car!
