Default Aftermarket security?

Do members think that there is any aftermarket security worth considering?

I have 'maxed-out' the OEM security by retrofitting the interior ultrasonic sensor and BBUS (Battery Backed-Up Sounder), as well as 2 keys and an emergency key (still need the blade cut though).

As far as I can see the car can only be stolen in one of three ways:
1) with the key
2) with a tow truck/flatbed
3) by completely rewiring the car or changing the ECU, EWS etc

As the original BMW security system appears to me to be very good, is there any aftermarket security you think is worth having?

Surely these cars are not on a joyriders top wish list, nor should I imagine they are worth stealing to order to sell on the continent. Security over what you have already would need certification after being fitted by a professional. If they want it they will take it, of that you can be sure.

The only other deterrent I would imagine to be any good would be a visual one, like a steering wheel lock or gear lever lock, but people who own them rarely use them. I have a steering wheel lock in the shed for example.

Thanks for your thoughts. I had thought that things like a steering lock or gear lever lock would be easily dealt with compared to the car's electronic security, unless the key had been stolen, but might do the job in that circumstance. Problem is, such things are a bit of a faff to use every day

Very neat though.

Is it also possible to fit the Rover one to the later cars?

I think so, the wiring is slightly different (a thread started by me gets to the bottom of this). I think BigRuss has fitted the early type to his tourer which should have the later type fitted, perhaps ask him for more info.

The BMW one though has 4 sensors and is central, the Rover one has 2 sensors and is mounted at one side, so I'd go for the BMW one.

Lateral thinking required for extra security..... Your House......

1. Don't leave your keys anywhere near a door or window (or in plain sight).
2. Beef up your house entry points
3. Cage your letter box with a fine wire mesh letter catcher.

Most car thefts nowadays are as a result of a burglary, or the owner has left the keys in to pay for fuel etc.... So no matter what you do to the car, in most instances, will do you no good if the the thief has your keys.

The only other thing I can suggest is to install a tracker system

As per....

http://www.tracker.co.uk/?gclid=CIes...FYcPfAodhDQAag or similar system.

At least you should get the car back in one shape or another
