Default Powerfold Wiring

As anybody who’s been bored enough to read my other recent thread will know, I had my o/s door mirror smashed by some mobile excretory organ the other night.

I was thinking of buying a new glass for it, but then saw a pair of power fold mirrors for sale, and though that might stop it happening again… so I did what I always do, and read through loads of threads, “How To’s” etc here.

Doesn’t look too bad, but one of them talked about having to run wires from one side of the car to the other to get the passenger door one working. This is more than I’d want to do.

Is there any easy way I can check if my motor (54 plate facelift) would already have the wiring in situ?

Thanks

lift out your window / mirror switchbox. on the back are two conectors. if one of those conectors has 2 empty spaces, you dont have the door looms for sure. the loom which goes from one side to the other across the car is probably there anyway. the door looms are easy to get hold of.

Yeah... looks like a couple of holes there :-(

For some reason, I can't upload pics where I normally do at the moment, but the longer connector of the two (8 way) has two empty positions... is that the one you mean?

Ah, here it is now:

Ah, here it is now:

If you had the powerfold door loom all positions in the switch wiring would be populated.

Running the 2 wires across the car isn't as bad as it sounds, the whole fitting job can be done easily in an afternoon.

I bought the additional wiring from a member on another forum, excellent quality just run it alongside your existing cabling, he also supplies the cross car cabling with it FOC, but he has never come across a car without it (mine had it).

If you want the original Powerfold full door looms, forum member Godfer has a pair for sale.

The only tedious part of fitting the Powerfolds is having to remove the doors to get the wiring through the door to the A pillar, it's easy if you have a helper than can take the weight of the door whilst you unplug the loom from the A pillar.

Honestly mate, if I had a tenner for every time somebody on the forum has told me that, and it's ended in disaster… I’m technically generally very competent (eg I fix computers for a living), but know nothing about how cars are put together, so get lost and stressed again and again when I try to do things which you guys find easy.

Hi Roger
If you ever get the chance to get to one of our midland nano meets you will see the power fold mirrors being fitted, here there and ever where, and you could also be helped with them to have yours fitted, and looms can be made up for you also if being fitted at the meet Arctic

You’re quite right, I must come to one – March hopefully!
Maybe I can bribe somebody to do my compensator too…

I'm going to one in Milton Keynes next weekend to get a re-map :-D

I don't know about bribery, but I know you can get your self added to the list, of compensators being fitted on the day of the meet by sending a PM once the list post is up for the Date in question, only six places as far as know Arctic

sorry, I must have missed this post. I had assumed you only had to fit a little loom from the door switch to the mirror... no?
