sometimes an oil light can come on if the engine is idling to low, what is the idle when the engine is hot ?

Its ok prefer it straight on the chin as it were, I am not convinced it is the switch even though there does appear to be leak coming from there, The oil pressure light only comes on at tickover and this only when the car is warm, when the car is reved up the light goes out. the car itself does sound too bad it appears smooth enough. I mean could or would the switch malfunction just on tickover,

Sometimes with older switches or cars that have not had regular oil changes they get gunged up and it takes more initial pressure to lift them from their contact point.
It's got to be your first option. beg steal borrow or if that fails try and buy one. edit...700 revs is normal

Thanks for that, just got off the phone from the local garage man, cars booked in for a new a switch tomorrow, fingers crossed, My only doubt, why did previous owner unplug the switch,

yeah it sounds like a faulty switch. ive seen the same problem on bikes.
