Default Power Fold Mirrors

Hi All,

As my next project I am considering powerfolds. From what I've seen and read it's the original bullet type that are the powerfolds.

I have the later design so my questions are:

1. Will the bullet type be an exact replacement for bolting onto the doors in other words do the bolt holes and fittings match the newer style?

2. I am aware of the wiring issues & there was an option to have the mirrors automatically fold to the ignition rather than on a switch as a preferred method what is involved in achieving that?

Thanks.

If you have the bullet style mirrors fitted to your car you will not be able to fit the later style mirrors, the stanchions are different.

Powerfolds are available in both styles, however the later ones are as rare as hens teeth.....you can however fit early bullets onto later cars with now problems at all.

If you go down the SMC conversion route, you need to start with a pair of bullets.

Powering them can be via an OEM switch (£120) or make up a relay via the ignition.

I have the later style mirrors, what I'm asking is - is it only bullet style that are powerfolds? And if so & from what you have said doesn't look like bullets can replace new style?

Hi

Just changed mine on my 2003 R75.

Got a pair of pre project drive bullet style powerfolds & bolted them straight on.

Just be aware that the mounting bolts/nuts are different !

This is because the later mirrors have a plastic mounting & the bullet's have metal.

The foam gasket is slightly different aswell but that's no real problem.

When you buy your powerfolds, make sure they come complete with the foam gasket, which they should, & also the mounting bolts/studs/nuts.

As for the wiring, mine was straight forward because I already had the later powerfolds.

Thanks Greeners.

So bullets can replace later ones no problems - that's great news.

How complex is an ignition relay? Is it something can be purchased or can it be made up without too much hassle?

Read all the SMC info so could be a goer then
