Symphony /cd plugs don't match

Can anybody help? I've a 54 plate cdt and I've changed the cd radio for a symphony system and just fitted a alpine cd changer both units have square plugs but don't match!. The cd changer has 8 pins and the lead that was originally fitted to the car (but no cd changer fitted) has a 12 pin plug and they dont fit together what do I do please help I'm stuck...matt.
